ASICS : COURT S (WHITE/BLACK)
ASICS started in 1949 when Kihachiro Onitsuka founded Onitsuka Tiger, a basketball shoe manufacturing company, in his hometown of Kobe. Onitsuka created a product that supplemented the problems of existing basketball shoes by focusing on the sucker function of the octopus. To validate his product, he convinced BIIKILA ABEBE, who won gold medal in the marathon at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, barefoot, to wear the shoes he had made. After that, Abebe, who wore Onitsuka shoes, won the Mainichi Marathon and was recognized for their excellent quality.
In 1977, Onitsuka Tiger merged with GTO, a sportswear manufacturer, and JELENK, a knitwear producer, to form ASICS. The company name ASICS is derived from the first letter of the Latin phrase 'ANIMA SANA IN CORPORE SANO (Healthy mind in a healthy body)'.
