Onitsuka Tiger was founded in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka as a basketball shoe manufacturing company in his hometown of Kobe. Onitsuka created a product that supplemented the problems of existing basketball shoes by focusing on the sucker function of an octopus, and convinced BIikila Abebe, who won a gold medal barefoot in the 1960 Rome Olympics marathon, to wear shoes he made. After making his shoes, Abebe wore them to win the Mainichi Marathon.

In 1977, Onitsuka Tiger merged with GTO, a sports apparel manufacturer, and JELENK, a knit apparel manufacturer, to form ASICS. It was built.

ASICS is a long-recognized brand that sponsors sports teams in 9 countries including Argentina, Brazil, Canada and Italy, and operates 6 subsidiaries including ASICS Sports and ASICS Tiger.

GEL-NYC is a newly born product with a design that contains the old school sensibility of New York Street, ASICS' representative running shoe, and GEL-CUMULUS sole. Inspired by heritage and modern performance running styles, the architectural structure of the sole minimizes foot fatigue and provides comfortable wear throughout the day through a combination of lightweight foam and GEL technology inserts. With the proper composition of leather and mesh, the function to hold the foot has been upgraded, and it combines excellent comfort as well as lightness, making it a comfortable running shoe for everyday use.
